Tracee de Hahn Not right now! Maybe someday. I've been on a bit of hiatus and am now finalizing a book set in a Kentucky distillery.... and am pretty excited about it.
Tracee de Hahn Jasper Fforde's books, particularly the Thursday Next novels. Imagine a fictional world where you can within it also travel to any other book ever written!
Tracee de Hahn I think just about anything fodder for a plot, it only needs the right twist. I've traveled - and lived - in many places, from Paris, Venice, Hong Kong, India and of course in Switzerland. Plenty of mystery material there. Strangers on a train? Things seen in the night but not understood? Not to mention the problems that come with misunderstandings in foreign languages. However, if I had to pick one event - it might be the pope's funeral in 2005. I'm not Catholic, however I went to the funeral, and the things I could tell you! It was the most amazing experience of my life, from the crowds to the rituals.... really every part. There's got to be a story - or five - there.
Tracee de Hahn My favorite couple is Prince Andrei and the young Natasha Rostova in Tolstoy's War and Peace. I re-read this book every few years and always hope that Prince Andrei won't die, and that Natasha won't make the mistakes of youth that come between them. His death meant that they didn't have a chance to go back and repair the damages done by her youth and folly and his pride. I always wished they'd had a second chance.
Tracee de Hahn Ignore it. Keep working. Writer's block is another word for procrastination. Work through the 'block' and suddenly you will find the words unfolding.
Tracee de Hahn Total control over the world I create! That's also the hardest part..... every decision comes down to me..... did I make the best choice in terms of plot, character, locale..... No matter how agonizing that internal conversation it, writing is still the best!
Tracee de Hahn Bits and pieces of everyday life inspire me. New places, familiar places, ideas combine and collide. As important as inspiration is simply putting pen to paper and writing. Inspiration will keep on flowing as you work.
Tracee de Hahn The Agnes Luthi Mysteries are set in modern day Switzerland and there is no end of inspiration in that country! I like to start with a place, then an idea and from there develop the story line. Since I was trained as an architect, place is very important to me, and Switzerland has so many 'places' that are interesting and unique. Of course, place goes beyond a specific geographic notion. While Swiss Vendetta was inspired by Chateau Chillon on Lac Leman, the second book is inspired by Swiss boarding schools.
Tracee de Hahn I'm currently working on the second book in the Agnes Luthi Mysteries series. She is back on the job and ready for her next adventure in beautiful Switzerland.
Tracee de Hahn Keep writing and treat it like a 'real' job. Network at conferences - a great way to learn the business of publishing (and it is a business). And most importantly.... enjoy! As hard as it is, it's the best job in the world.
