Join a writer's group and get critique partners to read your work. Keep writing and submitting. My first novel to get published was my 13th. I consider that a lucky number now.

Carolyn Rae I plan my stories ahead of time. Then I know what to write next. I also stop writing when something interesting is about to happen, so I'll be enthused to write about it when I get back to the computer.
Carolyn Rae I just came from a writer's conference where I spoke to three agents who were interested in the novel I finished. I'm working on a sequel to Romancing the Doctor, which will be called Romancing the Vet. Dogs will be used to smuggle drugs into the country. Right now I'm planning how the bad guys will chase the hero, heroine, and her dog to get the drugs back.
