The In-laws moved in. But they never moved out.

The fictional book world, to which I would most like to travel, would be the universe of Marvel comic books. I love the Marvel movies, and I think I would like to work with the crew of Peter "Star Lord" Quill, become an Avenger, or join the X-Men as a shape-shifter or fire-based winged man.
When I was a kid, I wanted to grow up to be a Jedi Knight perhaps because I was always a timid and anxious child and the Jedi represented bravery, heroism, and self-sacrifice.
The best part of reading, is we get to become different people, experience new worlds, and ideas, for a time. It's also the best part of being a writer.

That's a tough question because I'm a "word of mouth" reader. I tend to stumble upon books to read as opposed to actively seeking them out. I'm not one to read a book recommended by certain celebrities book clubs. I prefer to learn about hidden gems. Presenter's at my writer's groups. New friends or followers on Social Media. Recommendations of friends on Goodreads.

My real life is pretty boring, which is why I think I developed such an active imagination growing up. I needed some mystery, excitement, and adventure in my life, but my cautious nature always prevented me from taking risks or trying new things. So, I explore new ideas and different lives in my head and on paper while maintaining my outward "calm, cool, and collected" persona that comes across as aloof at best, and anti-social at worst.

Charles "Chuck" Bartowski and Sarah Walker from "Chuck." Hands down! I'm also a fan of Han Solo and Princess Leia or the classic Romeo and Juliet. However, I think Chuck and Sarah's romance has such a "nice guys win in the end" vibe along with "the nerd gets the hot girl" that appeals to my own inner geekiness.

I feel I'm at my most creative in the early hours of the morning, after a good night's sleep. I've always been more of a morning person than a night owl, and found that my mind works faster (and more clearly) after sleeping through the night (sometimes after a mid-afternoon nap).
I've never felt that working all night long, into the wee small hours of the morning, ever produced good results for me. In fact, I never once pulled an "all-nighter" during my years in Architectural school (typical of my classmates). I found I could get more done when I had sufficient sleep, and my best ideas came in the mornings.

I've always had an active imagination. As a shy and socially awkward kid I would create worlds filled with friends that weren't scary to me. I finally decided to put write out my favorite daydream when I read a quote attributed to one of my favorite directors "I write the stories I want to read." That was in the fall of 2013, and in December 2013 I just started writing. One month, and 80,000 words later I had the start of my first novel. I was 43 at the time.

Believe in yourself! Many people will offer you council, guidance and insight... but all of that is through the window of their own experience, biases, and subjective tastes...
"You can please all the the people some of the time, and some of the people all of the time... but you can't please all of the people all of the time." (Someone smarter than I said that, but I don't remember who)

I'll let you know as soon I feel like I'm more than an aspiring writer...

Sometimes I have to walk away from my project and let things marinate in the back of my mind... if I'm lucky something will gel in the most random of places and inspiration will strike and I'll have a new idea of how to develop an existing storyline, create a new sub-plot, or eliminate something altogether.
