Shea Olsen Hi Victoria!
Some of the best advice I ever got was to write everyday! The second best advice I ever got was to read just as much as you write. Read good stuff, bad stuff, and everything in between. You can learn just as much from poor writing as you can from incredible writing. But most of all, be true to your voice. Only you can write your story. So Keep at it, girl!
Shea Olsen Thanks for the great question, Lindy! YA is such a fun genre to write. Our high school years can be some of the most amazing and also some of the most challenging. FLOWER deals with a very important topic: follow your dreams or fall in love with a boy? And sometimes the answer isn't just one or the other. We all face temptations, and in our teen years, we're also trying to decide what we want to do with the rest of our lives. Charlotte struggles with this throughout most of the book, she makes a few mistakes, and I think these mistakes help her to know who she really is . . . and what she really wants!
I've always loved writing YA because it's such a vital point in all our lives and every decision can effect the rest of your life.
Shea Olsen Elizabeth Craft, a talented producer in L.A. who has worked on several YA TV shows, came up with the idea for FLOWER. I loved the idea, and had the awesome opportunity to write it!
Shea Olsen I like to listen to music or read a book by an author that inspires me. Sometimes I'll look through Pinterest at images that help inspire the world or scene I'm working on. Visuals are great!
