Not sure I have ever had the feeling. When writing history, I have to wait until the material is together in my head and in my files before sitting down to tell the story in words for others. If I'm stuck, it means the material is not adequate and I do more research. That always does the trick.

As a historian, I want to put history in the hands of people who might not otherwise have gone there. There is nothing better than hearing folks discuss your book, ask each other questions, and maybe ask me questions. Stimulating talk and helping people understand our history - what's not to like about that?

I'm a late bloomer as a writer so I won't be giving advice. Someone asked me how I learned to write an engaging history story and I have to say it is likely because I have read so many history books myself. It rubs off.

Book just launched so promotion, promotion, promo.... you get the idea. In the fall, we'll see what the next book might be. Maybe more William Weller, maybe something else....

I'm an amateur historian and genealogist so I constantly come across the stories of people, which are really the stories of Canadian history. Many of the second tier of history never get told since they aren't sexy enough, so I go for the kind of story not told before but still fascinating.

I do genealogy and William Weller of Cobourg was a big challenge since he had 22 children. Then, when I learned about this trip he took in 1840, and that nobody has written about it, well, it seemed an obvious job for me.
