Oh my! (LOL) As mentioned in an early question, I've been struggling with on-again off-again writer's block for a year now. I have tried many ways to beat it, taking the advice of many well known writers, and the only way that has worked for me--though barely--has been to force myself to sit down everyday and try. The inspiration may only last for an hour, maybe two, maybe not at all, but you have to try. Then don't be so hard on yourself if it doesn't come, take what you can get and try again tomorrow. Whatever you do, don't give up!

I never "felt" like a writer until I had a reader, so, I'm going to say the best thing is touching others with your writing. And once you've done that, you'll want to do it again and again and again. It's very addicting, but in a good way.

If it's your first book, write what you know. Stick to a subject matter that you feel deeply about or have great experience with..then write honestly and in great detail!

I'm so happy this question came up, as I'm very excited about my new adventure--"Man in the Mirror." I'm venturing into the uncharted waters of memoir, co writing a book with Dan Hawthorne, about the struggles of living as a 650 pound man in America. We've been digging in to what it takes to recover, both physically and emotionally, for the better part of two years. The outcome has been very exciting and uplifting. I know this sounds cliche, but there really isn't another story out there like this. Sure you can find a million books about weight loss and even a few about food addiction. However, I've never seen a story so deeply reveling, unearthing the reality of this decease with extreme bravery. I am confident this book will help many.

Normally, I merely get up every day! I love writing and the effort to write is not an effort at all. However, this last year has been a learning curve, filled with writer's block and stress, brought on by life's awful sense of humor. Nobody's laughing, but I am recovering--I think! (wink)

My most recent published novel, Dream Angel, is book two in the Angelic Series that started with Eternal Flame. The basic idea had been in my head for years, spun from a desire to write something folks would actually read, as well as taking that old saying "write what you know," to heart. I've been an Elvis fan since I was eight years old, and after 40 plus years, I felt I knew enough about the legend to bring him back to life, enjoyed in the smallest of details to Elvis' persona, like his walk, his talk, the little unconscious movements that only long time fan's pick up on. Having said that, let me assure you that anyone can enjoy this story, not just an Elvis fan. The base of the story was built on a real life trial, one we've all experienced; the need to forgive when we're really not in the mood.
