The creative license it gives me. With fiction, if I can conceive of the story, I can write it. Plus, there’s no budget to constrain my ideas. I can't think of another medium with which an artist can be so free.

I will lie down on my floor, accompanied and comforted by a glass of exceptional Napa Cabernet, and stare at the books on my book shelves. Eventually, I would spot one that covers a subject that I had sort of forgotten about, and it would occur to me that it might be interesting to bring that information into the story. So back to the computer with book and wine in hand.

While much of the writing is coming from personal experiences, the flow of the books feels to come from a place outside and beyond me. The characters often write their own lines, or I’ll start putting some down and suddenly this amazing information starts to come through, and I just try to type as fast as I can. When finished, I look at the work and think I didn’t know that! Must say that process is so cool, being in the zone.
