Jean Mead The latest book is The Widow Makers:Road's End and it is the final book in a historical trilogy. The Widow Makers, the first book, took a while to write as there was so much research of the Nantlle Valley, North Wales in the 19th century. The second was easier, the characters swept me along with their life stories. In the final book, Tommy Standish, the hated landowner throughout the story, gets his come-uppance, giving me the opportunity to introduce lots of twists and turns which I really enjoyed.
Jean Mead Mainly I dream stories, watch them unfold like a film. If the images stay with me I get to know the characters and then write down their stories. The characters do all the work. I just have to be there with them.
Jean Mead I'm working on my eighth novel but marketing is getting in the way.
Jean Mead My advice to anyone wishing to write is practice, practice, practice. No one started on a new career with experience of the job.
Jean Mead Spending time alone to work and think. There is of course that wonderful moment when your new book is put into your hands.
Jean Mead Fortunately writer's block has never been a problem to me.
