Anytime I lose or misplace something and can't find it (until I finally do) always seems like the perfect starting place for a mystery novel. Most misplaced on a regular basis (and I have a great memory!): my glasses, my Fitbit (falls off), and my car key. What do YOU misplace a lot??

Have read so many excellent books lately, but especially enjoyed "The Paper Palace," "Morningside Heights" and "Detransition, Baby." I also very much liked two new thrillers: "Good as Dead" by Susan Walter and "Conceptus" by Brian Herskowitz. Check 'em out!

I asked myself a "what if" question and let the story spin out from there. Then I set it in a world I knew well and tried to tell an authentic story.

I know that if I don't do it, it won't get done, no one else will do it for me. I also find the deeper into a project I am, the faster the writing goes, so I don't worry if it feels slow in the beginning. Reading other good writing is also inspiring.

A new novel (a mother-son drama) and a TV movie script.

Whatever you get down on the page is better than not doing it. You can always fix it from there. Don't try to be too perfect or profound. Your ideas are valid, now convince us why in writing. Most of all: enjoy the process.

Being able to create whole worlds that you can hopefully share with others. And being able to work in your bathrobe.

I don't really believe in writer's block as much as just not knowing what it is you want to write about or want to say. I DO believe in outlining and answering a lot of story, character and theme questions before I start writing anything. I also like to know what happens at my story's midpoint and the end before I start writing. Doesn't mean those things can't change, but I find it helps to have at least an initial sense of where you're going.
