Quite a while ago. I wrote the first draft, and then let it sit for ages--other projects grabbed my attention. Later, I took another look. I guess by then it became the right MS at the right time for me. I am so pleased with the finished book, and I await the arrival of my CreateSpace Proof--the Kindle version of "Daisy and Bartholomew Q," is already available. This is my first fantasy adventure: lots of humor + wild and wonderful characters. It encourages kids to read, as well as strengthen their vocabulary--why else would it be populated with Oogledorks, Dynoroars, Evil Crow, and talking trees.
PS: many of my 15 books are through a traditional publisher. With my last three, I felt it was time to fly solo, via CreateSpace.

By just by being alive, with two eyes and ears to see and hear. Everything, from your past to your present, can be tweaked or re-imagined into plots and characters that jump off the page. If your plot is well focused, and your characters feel as if you stole them from real life, then you have it RIGHT!

Have just completed a fun fantasy adventure for tweens- "Daisy and Bartholomew Q." Procrastination, Oogledorks, the search for fabulous new words, and a pompous Bookworm, all combine to take Daisy on the adventure of her life. Who would have thought that talking trees, an evil Black Crow, and a depressed Raccoon could be found inside a Thesaurus?

Learn the basics of grammar and punctuation, join a good critique group for your genre, and rework your plot and characters until they are as good as you can make them. If you are tempted to self-publish, always have your MS professionally edited first. Finally: writers who paint word pictures readers can 'see' in their heads are the ones who succeed. So choose powerful, active, and evocative words that paint images your readers will cherish--and come back for more!

I have never had this problem. Ideas just flow, usually in bed at night. I tiptoe into the bathroom, where I keep pad and pencil, and jot them down. If I don't do that I will never get to sleep.
