Sometimes I just sit down and write, I draw on personal experiences and I write whatever pops into my head. Sometimes I am hit with inspiration it is like a shock that travels through me from my head to my hand and erupts on to the page. The majority of times I think these are my best work. When I am not writing I love to read, themes and characters inspire me to explore in writing.

A few years ago (the first in 1997) I had poetry published by a small press in Peterborough. I had at least one poem published from each set that I sent in to them, from that moment on it became a burning desire to have a book where all my poems appeared together.

I sit down and write. I usually give myself half an hour of writing rubbish and I find I can fall back into the flow. If I can't pick up where I left off then I will write the character into an everyday situation independent of the story. With these little extra bits and a character profile I build up a solid back ground to my characters.

With the technology available these days I find the best thing is being able to write anywhere. If I get an idea I can get it down on my notes page on my phone, I might not always have a pen and a bit of paper, but how often do you go out without your phone?

Keep at it! Write every day and always document what you write. I have lost work over the years that I would still have if I had been a bit more careful.

I am currently working on another book of poetry. The selection of poems are with a wonderful group of people that have volunteered their time to giving me feed back and telling which work best.
I am also working on a couple of short story books and there are a couple of novels on the back burner.
