Hi Kit. Yes, I do author visits, depending on the location (Hawaii sounds lovely but might bust my travel budget . . .)
Let me know what possible dates you have in mind, and I'll see which one works for me. And tell me something about your teen book club--is it part of Forever Young Adult or associated with a school or library? How many members do you have? Any information you care to share would be most appreciated.
I hope we can work this out as I'd love to speak to your group. Looking forward to hearing from you!

A long time ago, I read a book called The White Plague by Frank Herbert, which was written by the guy who wrote the Dune series. Set during the violent time between England and Northern Ireland in the seventies, the story was about an engineered plague that killed only women. I was intrigued by that idea and tucked it away in the back of my mind. Years later, when I was trying to come up with a story for a young adult series, that idea surfaced once again. I decided to flip it, making the men the victims of the epidemic and concentrate on the aftereffects of the plague, not the outbreak.

I get inspired to write because I am both author and audience for my story. And as the reader, I want to know what happens in the story so the author in me had better hurry up and finish the darn thing!

I'm finishing up Puzzle, the second book in The Pink Trilogy. After I finish Perilous, the third book in the series, I'd like to write a stand-alone book--writing a story that stretches over three books can be a challenge! My undying admiration goes out to all those authors who have nailed the multi-book format.

Write! Give yourself permission to write what you want and to learn from your mistakes. And here's the flip side: read! Enjoy the genres you love, but also explore the kinds of books you don't. Then write and read some more!

The best thing about being a writer is the freedom to take your story wherever you want it to go. That same freedom, however, can also be the most difficult thing--with so many different ways a narrative can go, it's sometimes a challenge to know which is the best path.

I deal with writer's block by asking myself a question: what am I afraid of? Sometimes it takes some digging to find out what thought is hanging me up. When I do discover it, I work my way through the response as if I were my own best friend. Most times, this takes care of the block enough for me to move forward.
