Robert James Schultz I would love to go the the Planet Cross in the Jurass system of Hadrian. This is not only a manufacturing juggernaut for that quadrant of Hadrian, but is also a destination playground for any tourist in the quadrant, rich or poor. Imagine lounging on a luxurious Letoh balcony, watching Cross's two moon in close orbit. So close you can see the mining process taking place on the surface and the ships in orbit having to manually navigate to avoid collision. The recreation available on Cross is like nowhere else. If you can imagine it, it's there.
Robert James Schultz I typically steer clear of a question like this because it's kind of fluid, and I biased on my own characters. Outside my own writing worlds, I really loved the relationship of Pete Sandich and Dorinda Durston in the story 'Always'. A 1989 movie remark of the 1940s war film, 'A guy name Joe'. The relationship this couple had was so full of passion and spark, one not letting the other try to overshadow the other. Both trying to figure out how to get along with the other and ultimately figuring it out, some of it, after one partner was gone. The relationship was as well intertwined with the surrounding story, as the actors portrayal of them and how well they acted the parts. But this isn't a movie review. My other favorite couple, at least right now, comes from the second book I just wrote, first in its three book series I'm working on, Gunnar Conrad and Audra Atlanta. A match, inadvertently brought together in which case, not only do they love and need each other emotionally, but also on a physiological level as well. This relationship follows the time proven adage that the man needs the woman to keep him running straight, but the man never wants to admit to that and it is only after a life time together does he discover that he is very little, or at least, very incomplete without the woman. Gunnar and Audra are no different, but it's how they come to realize each other's short comings and how the other can help to fill in the blanks to create a couple of one mind.
Robert James Schultz As I said before. You have to just plow right through it. So what if it won't come out the way you think it should. If it won't, let it vommit out on the page and go back to it later and figure it all out. I can't tell you how many times I have had to do this and cringed as it was happening. But something inside, and you should listen to this carefully, something inside you will push you and coach you to just dribble anything out. Don't try to make it wonderful the first time around. There is plenty of time to make that happen, believe me, you'll be going back multiple times anyway, I promise.
Robert James Schultz You are in command. You get to be right there where the action is. You get to experience it. There is nothing more exciting than living an adventure and realizing the people that you're writing about, have come alive and have taken on a persona of their own.
Robert James Schultz Write! Don't let writer's block stop you! Those ideas are in your head and even if they don't want to come out the way you want them to, just splay them out in any way you can. Don't worry about it. That's the beauty of the written word, you can always come back to it and fix it and tweak. Never be afraid of letting someone else see it. The written word will never die, too many people before, now and to come love it. They always will.
Robert James Schultz I have two other works of fiction I am currently working on. Closest to publication now is a pure SciFi novel called "Starbird Carolon Command". It is a three part book series, so only the first book is complete. I'm about half way through the editing process right now and hope to have it ready by early 2015. The other work is fictional history and is still in the writing phase, about a third finished. I plan to take that one back up in 2015 when the editing of "Starbird" is finished.
Robert James Schultz Music is the main medium for inspiration while I write. I'm typically a very passionate person and a hopeless romantic. That doesn't mean I like romance novels, but I do love mixing a good romance in with high adventure and action.
Robert James Schultz The original inspiration for this book came back in 1981 after watching the movie "Conan the Barbarian" and grew from there to something a little closer to home. At the time, my parents lived at the base of the western slopes of the Teton Mountains on the Idaho side and I wanted to create an adventure that included that local region. I wanted something that my brothers an I could share. Indeed, the main male characters are patterned after me and my brothers.
