Again, my experience is only with non-fiction. For me, I knew I was ready when I felt I had something compelling to say, and experience to draw on. Also, think of writing a book as a creative process. Because having ideas and lots of research isn't enough. You have to find a way to organize this mass of material into a clear and compelling story. (The creative process is also part of the fun....the challenge...at least for me.)

So far, I've only written non-fiction. What I love: 1) seeking to inspire people to engage in work that will help to improve the world by providing concrete examples, and paths forward. 2) learning so much through the research, and listening to the people whom I meet and interview. 3) learning by having to synthesize and organize so much material. 4) the creative process of taking my ideas and all of the research and creating a cohesive, readable "story." 5) learning from people with whom I engage after they read the book.
