Sarah, so glad you liked the book! The first draft of The Blood Sigil (book 2) is complete, and I am now entering the long road to completion. I have 2 rounds of professional edits planned, one starting May 15th, the other at the beginning of June. I suspect I will have the final work, including all the artwork, maps, etc ready to go in July.
Pre-orders, however, should be ready by end of April or early May.
I know it's a long process, but I am a perfectionist and I won't publish a book until it's done. That said, the long editing process does give me a chance to get a head start on book three!

My oldest daughter has some hearing loss, but other than that I don't have any deaf family members. My main motivation for creating a deaf protagonist was that I wanted a hero that could turn a disability into something magical, into an advantage.
Lots of heroes in comic books and movies have artificial struggles, but I want my characters to struggle with, and overcome, things that are very real and identifiable to the readers.
In short, the people in my stories are real people to me, not characters, and so I want them to face real problems.

Yes, The Fifth Vertex is self-published. I am humbled and honored that you think so highly of the book. I'll be sure to post about it if the publishers start knocking on my door ;)
