For me, writing books is the best form of journalism as I can spend years digging deep to get the true story in all it’s fascinating detail. The job then is to translate this to readers so they come along for a hell of a ride. Getting feedback from readers that they felt they were there, or they don’t often read but couldn’t put this one down is the most satisfying and rewarding feeling and what it’s all about to me. When those I’ve interviewed and who are part of the story tell me how accurate a portrayal a book is - that is the height of satisfaction.

I was inspired to research and write my newest book “Operation Playboy” after learning about this police hunt of surfer playboys trafficking drugs while working on “Snowing in Bali”. Operation Playboy was a natural progression but it then took 5 years of flying to Brazil, Europe and Bali to research.
