Melody Taylor I only had it once, but it was awful. Two years. It was depressing, physically painful at times. I finally dealt with it by writing for five minutes a day and giving myself a huge high-five for getting that far. Five minutes became ten, then twenty, then an hour. In a few weeks, I suddenly had seven pages of a new draft and realized I didn't have writer's block anymore.
Melody Taylor When someone says, "I really liked your characters" or similar. Nothing makes me glow more than putting my imaginary friends out there and watching them make a good impression.
Melody Taylor Write. Write what you like to read. Read. I've run across a few people who claim to be writers but also claim not to like to read. That's like meeting a rider who is afraid of horses. Share, and don't be offended when people make suggestions. That's the highest form of compliment -- it means someone thinks what you have is worth polishing.
Melody Taylor I am concurrently finishing up two projects that were about half-done when I started working on learning the technical aspects of self-publishing. The first is an evil faerie story called "A Dark and Twisting Road" and the other is the full-length sequel to "In the Dark," called "After Dark." Both should be out before the end of summer this year. (2015)
Melody Taylor The real question is, how do I stop myself? If I'm not writing, I'm miserable.
Melody Taylor Actually, it was suggested to my by other authors that readers enjoy short stories about the history of the characters. When I asked a few readers if they would like that, they said "yes, yes, yes yes!!!!" So I wrote my characters' history. I already knew it, I just told the story.
