I can't remember a time when I didn't write stories. Before I could write, I acted story lines out through play. As soon as I had the skills to write a sentence (at about 6 years old), I started to write the stories down. So I guess you could say I've always been a writer.
But--I would only very recently count myself as an author, and while I always had the desire to be an author, I didn't have the commitment needed until I was 40. Before that I was always writing (I often come across the beginning of a story, tucked in a book, or hidden in between work meeting notes), but never finishing anything. I thought I needed more time; I thought I needed tranquility.
Nope. It turns out I just had to commit to the hard work needed to write a novel (even when I am tired, or want to watch t.v. instead).
I hope that answers your question Kula!.

Honestly? Sometimes I don't feel inspired at all. During those times the inspiration trickles in when I force myself to sit down day after day and just put words down one at a time. That is the boring, most-of-the-time truth.
But (and please don't judge me as TOO strange) sometimes my inspiration comes from dreams. I wake up,and I've dreamed this whole story. I have dozens of notebooks filled with 'dream' stories.

Everything! Maybe I am saying that because it is so exciting to have a first book coming out, and I am (briefly) forgetting how hard it is when the writing is not flowing, or when I am exhausted from the day job, but still have to put in three hours of writing before bed. However, I can think of nothing in the world I would rather do than write stories.

Live, live, live. Sometimes I despair at all of the lost years I spent not (seriously) writing stories, but life experience was as important in giving me something to say! But also, keep writing--any kind of writing will do, even if it is boring reports for work, or soul destroying essays for school.
