Peter J. Azzole I see your point. However, ULTRA reports did not reveal the true source of the intelligence-cryptanalysis. The reports were written with false sources, HUMINT, reconnaissance, etc.. There were multiple spies in Britain that had ULTRA access, but even so, the true source was not compromised. Tony had access to ULTRA, but very restricted knowledge beyond that. Note that they kept him compartmented and restricted access at BP. So, it's not a stretch to consider the potential of an SOE mission greater than the risk to Tony's level of ULTRA knowledge. A war was in progress and cases of deviation from the norm were many and varied. ASSIGNMENT: NORWAY will be a case in point. Even in my career, there were many cases where potential yield versus risk of loss came out in favor of yield.
Peter J. Azzole Something awful happened in the system that lost some your question's words. I think I got enough to 'decipher' it. :) First, thank you for your kind words and support. Second, what is next? Another "Assignment" book in the CDR Romella series, WWII, picking up where "London" left off. I'm about 1/3 or so through the next manuscript. If you liked "London," you'll definitely like book 3. Tony is going back in harms way, of course. Cheers!
Peter J. Azzole Pertinent question. It's a good way to formulate an idea for a project. I have several 'ideas' in my projects folder. But, my policy is not to divulge anything about project ideas, after all, it's a competitive world. :)
Peter J. Azzole What's that? (grin) Frankly, that's something I have never experienced. When I sit down to write, it happens. I must be very lucky.
Peter J. Azzole Oh, what a great question. There are so many positive facets. Key among them is the creativity outlet and learning a broad spectrum of information through the necessary research. The big bang, on publication, is the satisfaction that you provided a great reading experience for the readers.
Peter J. Azzole Read books about the craft. Reader's Digest had many 'how to' books in their 'library' which I personally found to be of tremendous help in learning and understanding the mechanics. Create a list of ideas and start sketching out those ideas as one page summations. Sooner or later, you'll run into one that takes on a life of its own and moves you to that next step.
Peter J. Azzole I actually have a half dozen ideas on my 'to do' list, three are being pursued in some level. BUT, earnest work is underway for a sequel to ASSIGNMENT BLETCHLEY.
Peter J. Azzole So far, it's my appreciation and curiosity about historical events involving the Navy or intelligence operations.
Peter J. Azzole Bletchley Park has always been an important historical element in my Navy profession. Declassification of the work done there during WW2 resulted in a many books and documents, which I eagerly consumed. I actually started my research and storyboarding for this novel as far back as 2000, after I finished HELL TO PAY. A physical move and a busy personal schedule precluding a faster completion.
