Douglas Kent I'm moving back and forth between a memoir about my first marriage, and one about my childhood. My first wife had a multitude of mental and physical problems so that one is a lot harder to write, but I find writing about difficult periods of my life to be cathartic. I think that will be the next memoir I finish.
Douglas Kent Write because you want to, not because you can get it published. And keep writing. No matter how poor you think your writing skills are, the more you write the better they will be. And, in the end, you can self-publish if you can't do it any other way.
Douglas Kent I don't know that there really is a best thing. If I ever get to the point where I can earn a living writing, I'll tell you!
Douglas Kent Because 95% of what I write is true-to-life memoir, if I'm not sure how to approach something I'm working on I just move on to something else. When I write fiction and hit writer's block I either move back to one of my memoir projects or simply put that project away for a while. Distance and time often solve the problem. The right music can help too.
