Hi Joan,
I grew up in the middle of nowhere, so the thought of being an author never occurred to me. It was like saying I wanted to be a movie star--not happening! But as I grew older, I realized I wanted to write. I was working as an electrical engineer when after work one day I wandered into a book store and found a book title How to Write a Romance and Get it Published. It was then that I knew! I wanted to be an author! Thank you for your question!

My favorite fictional couple is Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy. I discovered Jane Austen as a teenager, and I was blown away by Sense and Sensibility. However, Pride and Prejudice has my fave couple. It shows the romance between two independent peple perfect for each other--even if they don't always see it. I love the way they both grow and change as the story progresses!

My next release, Unexpected Family, coming out in September through Love Inspired, was inspired by a couldn't-get-to-sleep moment that jolted me out of bed. I thought, what if a man got a call from the police that his wife and daughter had been in an accident, only the man didn't have a wife or daughter!
Or maybe he just didn't know he had a wife and daughter...
And I had to write the story. By the way, my original idea spark did not make it in the book, but I don't mind since it gave me such a great plot.

I usually have the plot for my next book spinning around in my head while I'm working on the current book. This keeps me motivated to finish. I always want to write the next book. Inspiration comes from many places--reading, walking through local parks, and praying for direction--all these help a lot.

I'm writing a proposal for my (hopefully!) fourth Love Inspired set in Lake Endwell.

Never give up. Never. If this is what you want, keep writing. Study the writing craft, study the industry, and most of all, study your options.

Everything! I've been dreaming of becoming a published author for twenty years. It's not easy. It took me a long time to get published. But I wouldn't trade it for anything. Even the hard tasks (writing a synopsis, reaching out for different promotion opportunities, and revising) are awesome!

The best way to deal with writer's block is to avoid it at all costs! When I'm writing a draft, I do not take more than three days off. The ideas stay fresh when I'm writing regularly. Also, I keep a notebook nearby. After each writing session, I sketch out the next scene or two. Just the basics. It helps keep me in the flow.
