Tammy Johnson The idea for Royal Rescue came from a few different places. I knew I wanted to write a story with a strong heroine on the run. I knew I wanted her to have been in hiding for many years and afraid of being herself. From there I added in the royalty layers to support the theme that we are all royalty through God our Father. I have struggled for a long time with self-esteem and value issues and I wanted to use this story to hopefully share that we are all valued treasures whether we have learned to fully believe it or not. I hope this comes through in the story and that readers grow a stronger belief in their value because of it.
Tammy Johnson I spend a lot of time trying to really get to know my characters before I start writing. I like to be in a place where I can think like they think and know how they'd react in a situation. It might sound funny, but that's when the pages that I really feel good about come. If the words aren't flowing, I'll listen to some music or watch something on TV. Sometimes watching facial expressions or body language will give me ideas for how I'd want scenes to go and it gets the creativity going. I also like to spend some time on Pinterest looking for characters or setting ideas. I have a wall at home I section off for pinning up photos and blocking out scenes. I like to spend some time with that to get inspired as well.
Tammy Johnson Right now I'm working on writing Leo's story. Leo is the brother of the heroine in my first story, Royal Rescue. I hope to have it finished in the next few months and hopefully submitted.
Tammy Johnson Never give up! If it is your dream, follow it through all the way. Always write for yourself. Put a little of you on every page. You are the only person who can do that.
Tammy Johnson Creating characters that can be anything. Characters in stories have no limits. They can be as daring or cautious as they want. Characters in a story can be little pieces of everything you want to be, have been or are.
Tammy Johnson It might sound funny, but I try to write myself out of it. For me, writer's block is usually because I'm going in the wrong direction, not listening to what the character really wants, or I'm just starting in the wrong place. If I go back and just start writing something, even if it's just random, it has a funny way of working it's way back to where the characters really want me to go.
Tammy Johnson It's really hard to put my finger on just one thing that inspired me to become an author. It's a dream I've had for a very long time. Reading probably inspired me the most. I remember reading books and becoming so attached to the characters that they came to life in my mind. I hated to see their stories end, so I began making up my own characters and gave them their own stories. The stories still end, but being a part of the process from the beginning made them come even more alive and always a part of me.
