Louisa Heaton My Dad's dad disappeared for years. No-one knew where he'd gone, what had happened to him, or whether he was even alive. We eventually learned, many years after his death, that he'd ended up in prison, after a series of petty crimes and that he struggled to live a straight life. I'd be interested to know more about him and what turned him to his life of crime and why he decided to disappear, when he'd said, he was popping out to buy cigarettes.
Louisa Heaton Well, it just has to be Jamie and Claire from Diana Gabaldon's Outlander!
Louisa Heaton I write through it. Even if what I write is rubbish. If that doesn't work, then I go out, take the dogs for a walk, do something that allows me to refill my well.
Louisa Heaton Working from home in my jammies!
Louisa Heaton This is such a hard thing, because everyone is different and works in the way that suits them, but write everyday. Even if you don't feel like it. It's easier to edit and rewrite a bad page, than it is to stare at a blank one. Write from your heart. Put down on the page what feels right to you, as you would say it. This is your voice. Don't try to emulate someone else's style.
Louisa Heaton I'm currently finishing off book 3, provisionally titled the Mother of His Child. But I've also started on book 4.
Louisa Heaton I have to have a burning idea first. An opening scene, a conflict. Then my characters come to me. But on a day to day basis, I just have to sit down and write, whether I'm inspired or not! If I waited for the muse to come each time, I'd hardly ever get anything done.
Louisa Heaton I've always been intrigued by surrogacy. About the women who decide to be surrogates, especially. I'm a mother myself of four children and know how attached I used to get to that pregnancy bump. Talking to it, stroking it, pushing lumps back in! I wondered what it would be like to be pregnant and know I could not keep that baby. I had to explore that a little with Callie.
