Alecia Blake I prefer to read "real" books. However, I was away from home for a few months, and read exclusively on my iPad. So, for travel or for areas that are not near a library, reading on a device is fine. But I was relieved to be home, visit my library and get my hands on some books! I read mostly at night before bed... that's my life-long habit (and pleasure).

How do you read?
Alecia Blake My book is a graphic memoir about having IBS, a chronic digestive disease, done in cartoons. So I am a combination writer/illustrator. In that regard, my dream as a writer, at least with this book, would be to reach as many people who have a chronic condition as possible, and make them smile and/or wince in recognition. It's a good thing to know you are not alone, and in creating the comics that comprise my story, I always hoped there would be people who would get a sense of, "Yes, that's what I feel!". Moving forward, I'd love to create more personal observations with comics on other subjects, using a similar format.
Alecia Blake I have always enjoyed cartooning about events in my life that I either considered funny, quirky, or traumatic. I remember reading Mark Alan Stamaty's "Real Life Funnies" in the Village Voice when I was younger and loving his observations of every day life with himself as a neutral observer. When I developed the chronic condition of IBS many years ago, I spent most of my time being desperate and frustrated at the lack of a solution to my discomfort, misery and embarassment. A long time passed before it occured to me to start drawing about my observations , feelings and frustrations. This led to my blog, and eventually to my book, Chronically Me: Flushing Out My Life and Times With IBS, A Memoir in Comics.
