Try not to get discouraged. It's really easy when fall into despair if your work gets rejected or you face poor reviews, but if you change your perspective and look at those difficulties in a positive light, it can improve your skills.
Most importantly, write for yourself. Don't write to make money or gain fame, those things are fleeting and often subject you to unfair scrutiny. Don't tailor your books to an audience and don't allow others to talk you into it. Write what makes you happy and then, your best work, will always come through.

I am inspired by everything. I spend a lot of time working with people and have always found myself trying to work out their motivations. I'm interested in their life stories, probably because I've spent so much of my life reading. I also find inspiration in every day life. The things we do from day to day that shape our lives and make us who we are.

I like to focus on women of the Tudor period who have either been ignored by most novelists or maligned by historians. Catherine Carey is someone who has been virtually ignored for the better part of 500 years so she was the first woman I wanted to focus on. I wanted to focus on someone who had cultivated a less rosy reputation and find out whether it was deserved. Jane Rochford has always piqued my interest and I have always felt like she was unfairly handled by historians. I wanted to hear her side of the story.
