Ashwini Devare Writer’s Block is an affliction that many an author can succumb to, only if he or she allows it. It is only as daunting as you make it out to be.
Getting started is the best way to cure Writer’s Block, which is easier said than done! I try to overcome Writer’s Block by trying to write something everyday- even a paragraph or two is a good start. Even if I don’t feel particularly inspired or creative on a given day, I force myself to sit down at my desk and start writing. The idea is to get started and keep going, to not procrastinate, to not overthink.
If I am at a loss for words, which happens quite often and is a normal part of the writing process, I still try to put my ideas down. It’s better to have something to work with than nothing at all.
Once I have written something, I know I will revisit my work a few hours later. The editing process is my favorite part, that’s when you forget you even had Writer’s block, because now you are staring at a piece of writing which needs a lot of fixing and is screaming for your attention!
Remember Writer’s Block is a luxury- life is short and if you wait for that bolt of inspiration to strike, you might be waiting a very long time!
