V.R. Leavitt My most recent book, "5 Tales of Transformation" is a collection of short stories that were written over a period of about five years. They were primarily writing exercises and I never really thought to publish them, but I kept coming back to them and noticing they all had a similar theme, so why not put them all together to see how they gelled? I was really happy with the result and, so far it's been very well received.
V.R. Leavitt Inspiration comes in different forms. It usually happens at the most random moments and when I'm least expecting it. I find that when I consciously try to get inspired, it never really works.

I find inspiration usually by taking in a good movie or reading a good book or story. I'll find inspiration for different characters by observing people at coffee shops or theme parks. I try to keep a pen and notebook with me at all times since I never know when it will strike. I also whisper a lot of notes into my phone. Yay for technology!
V.R. Leavitt Right now, I'm working on a few things. One is a historical fantasy novel called, "Shaping Fate." It centers around a man who loses his family to the Black Death in 1349.

I'm also working on an untitled fantasy novel which takes place in the future, and a non fantasy piece that focuses on a woman who cleans up crime scenes for a living.
V.R. Leavitt Don't be afraid to screw up. It's bound to happen and you'll learn more from your mistakes than you will from praise. You just have to get in there and do the work. The more you work at it, the more you'll learn.
V.R. Leavitt I think there are two things. One, would be to have a creative outlet that I can do anywhere at any time really. Another great thing is when people really connect with your story. It's really an amazing feeling when somebody really "gets" what you wrote.
V.R. Leavitt Excellent question. Most of the time, I try to move onto a different project. I have a few going at a time usually, so sometimes concentrating on something else for a while helps relieve the block. And if I'm totally stuck, I find that watching a good movie or reading another book helps fill the creative well and gets me inspired again.
