Read. Read. Read. Too many writers write in a vacuum. This is especially true of poets. I've never met a group so bent on "not being influenced." But the fact remains - you cannot become a better writer without being a great reader.

I don't believe that writer's block exists. Authors sometimes stand in their own way, perhaps out of pressure or anxiety to produce something meaningful. As far as I understand it, writer's block is an inability to get started. What I tell my students is this: stop thinking, start writing. It doesn't matter if the first few lines or even pages are nonsense. If you get your mind out of the equation and just move the own across the page, eventually what needs to come out will.
