Great question Desiree.
I have a great sense of humor in that I can take what people say about me and laugh.
Am I funny? I can be and I can definitely give one liners.
In my books, I try to be funny, but I don't know if it always comes across the way that I want it to, but in book six, in particular, I had the best time writing the conversations with Stephen and Teddy.
If you've read the books then you will know the characters, but just in case you haven't... Teddy is the h's (Kelsey) brother, and he and HRH Prince Stephen are good friends. So, when Stephen goes to Teddy for advice, Teddy pulls no punches. He is both protective of his sister and good friend to Stephen that tell's it like it is, all wrapped into one crazy brother.
Just thinking about Teddy makes me laugh. He is a character I love, love, love!
So, what I do is incorporate the funny into character interactions in my books. That is my answer on how to add humor.
I really base my funny meter on my husband. 1st off he hates my books because they are not his genre. He is a history buff and only wants to read history, or there needs to be killing every second and not sex and feelings every second. So, if he reads a part and I hear him laughing, I am like, what did I say? If he sends me a message where I've made him laugh, I believe it is golden part of my book because I've hooked him and he doesn't think I'm funny at all, or at least he said he didn't until he read my books and now I'm getting better.
My tips on adding humor is to try not to be funny. It has to come through a natural order of things. It is a conversation that gets too serious and you kind of need to reign things in so you make it funny, give it a little laugh.
When I think of the funniest moments in my book, they all happened in book 6. I am sure there is funny in the other ones, but book 6 was just so crazy that I had to make it comical to keep the reader from wanting to chuck their kindles.
Plus, I cheated and used the Hero POV. He is just funnier than Kelsey. He doesn't have to take things too serious. He is a Prince, the world is his oyster. Women will do anything to have him, men will do anything to be him. He has to laugh and be funny.
If you read them, thank you for reading. If not, I hope that you read them and tell me what you find funny, but if you don't choose to read them, then I hope that you will come back and suggest some funny reads for me. I love to read!!!
I appreciate your question and I hope that I answered you some where in those millions of words.
P.S. Is book 7 funny? YES! But this is one crazy trip to the end.
Thanks, again!

It has to be something that you love to do and would do for free.

The best thing to me is just being able to write something that people fall in love with and can't wait to read, and have hard time putting it down.

Mostly I sleep until the creation starts to flow again, or I just move on to another section of my book. I don't try to force things because then it is just crap.

Funny you mention writing in your head all day and sleep as a way to relax any blockage. My problem has never been writer's block because I find myself being in a new story almost every night in my dreams. I have hundreds of great stories, sometimes as poems or songs, flushed out in detail. My problem is finding time in the day to write them all. I have so many great fun and bright ideas that I've often thought about giving them all away to others just so some version of them can be enjoyed by all. Even if I gave them all away, I would still have a new one tomorrow.

It is a neat idea to give away your stories, but they would never have your special touch. You could, however, combine stories. I am finding that people are gravitating to more complex stories/genre's.
Or you could make them short stories. It is always good to just write things out and not worry about time. I get stuck in the not enough time in a day thing as well. Just do it and then let it go. If you pick it back up in a month or so... cool, if not then I guess you could give it away, or ask a writer if they will co-write with you the finish. That always seems to work out well. ...more
