Richard McCrohan Currently I am in the midst of writing and illustrating my next novel, I Repeat, This is Not a Test. It will be the sixth and final novel in my Pandora Virus series of books. It is also novel number thirteen for me.
Richard McCrohan There is no one thing. Sometimes it may be a picture I'll see and the photo will spark an emotion or thought. Sometimes it's just an idea that forms in the back of my mind. It's like spontaneous combustion...it just happens. Then one thought leads to another and an idea is formed. That becomes the hook or a plot and I 'm off.
Richard McCrohan Just two pieces of advice. The first is read. Read everything you can possibly get your hands on. All subjects! Everything! The more that you read, the more you'll learn. The more you learn, the better and smarter your writing will be. Believe me, the most obscure thing that you're going to be mentioning...somebody's going to know all about it and your facts better be right. The second is just to write. A lot of you ( including me) started with poetry. Poetry is wonderful because it teaches you how to put words together successfully for a great internal rhyme.
Richard McCrohan That's easy! All those scenarios and crazy thoughts that float around in my head I can write down and actually share with others. I also am an artist, and I get the same warm, happy excitement writing a book as I do creating a painting. Art is art.
Richard McCrohan I wait. It usually doesn't last very long. Then, a kernel of an idea forms and I'll start thinking and expanding the idea. The next thing you know, I'm writing again.
