Star Spider Not very well. ;) Mostly I just walk when I run out of ideas. I take huge walks, ideally through nature and talk with my husband about the story to sort out all my problems. He's an amazing storyteller (video editor and longtime dungeon master) and he can always get to the heart of things. Movement and taking a break let my body relax and my mind open, which can resolve a lot.
Star Spider Flow. The flow state a psychological term for when someone is fully immersed in their activity. Time falls away and all that exists is you and the thing you are focussed on. To get there it requires a perfect balance with the activity where it is not too hard, but not too easy. It's difficult to achieve, but when you do there is nothing like it. I often feel that way when I am working on a big project or even a short story. Totally swept away. It's awesome.
Star Spider Your story matters. Even if you are tired of hearing yourself tell it, remember nobody else has. Don't be afraid to draw from your life, your history, your wealth of experience to find your voice. Also remember, editing is a huge part of writing. Even if something doesn't feel perfect at first, keep pushing through and fix it later. Don't lose momentum just because you are worried about words you already wrote.
Star Spider The new book I'm currently editing is a contemporary YA novel with a dystopian twist. I'm very excited about it.
Star Spider The world around me inspires me. It could be an article I'm reading, something I learn in class, something I overhear on the bus. As I travel through life I try to keep my mind open to the possibilities. Stories are everywhere, we just have to be patient enough to wait for them to find us.
