I walk the beach and talk with my characters in my head. I get strange looks, but my characters tell me what they are feeling. I then write what they told me, even if it has nothing to do with the book.

Read! Read what you love, read genres you want to write in, read genres you never thought to read before! After that, write! Don't worry about writing well, just write. For me, the more outlandish your initial writing is, the better your eventual story will be, (when you reign it in slightly!).

I have written poetry and short stories for ever. I always wanted to write novels. The earthquake in Haiti inspired me to go a head and do it.

I have had the basic idea for the series for a very long time. When the massive earthquake hit Haiti 4 years ago it gave me the event i needed to force me to get started actually writing.
