Nancy Reuben Greenfield Write for yourself and not for publishing. Writing is a great hobby and very cathartic. It doesn't have to be for fame or fortune. It can be a way of getting to know yourself and your imagination. Enjoy the process!
Nancy Reuben Greenfield I deal with writer's block in two ways. The first is to NOT WRITE. That is not a typo. I stay away from writing and instead force myself to stretch in new directions. Art. Music. Theater. Singing. A different genre of book. A different genre of movie. Anything that forces me to think in new ways or about new ideas. This can often poke open new spaces for me to explore and ideally inspire new ideas for writing.

The second way I approach writer's block is to simply write and not judge what I have written. I know that is hard but sometimes just popping out ideas, jotting down thoughts, a few doodles, maybe a diary entry, or a poem. The key thing is just to write and not to evaluate or rewrite. Eventually I will find something that intrigues me enough to keep writing.

By the way, one of the ways I avoid writer's block is by having certain music that I consistently listen to while I write. I can put this music on and often it will just keep my pen a rolling and my keyboard typing.
