“Oh God.”
I told you not to look.”
No, you didn’t. You said ‘in a minute.’ That’s not the same thing at all.”
It is to me.”
She swallowed back her gorge. Her throat was tight in the aftermath. “I’m adding communication issues to the stuff we need to work on.”
I communicate just fine. The way I see it, your listening is off.”

“Why?" Why wouldn't he let her go? Why did he make her stay?
She felt the brush of his lips over her hair.
"Because I need you."
"You don't know me."
"I know." His finger under her chin lifted her face. "But I've waited centuries for the chance.”

“You're a virgin. You have no idea what you're asking for."
"Then you will have to teach me."
"Not like this. Not on a horse in the middle of nowhere.”

“For the rest of his life he'd remember how she looked in that moment as she put her mark on his soul with four little words.
"I've made my choice.”

“She glanced up into his face. He was looking down at her, his mouth soft, his expression indulgent. If his expression was anything to go by, he was going to be a very generous lover.
The corners of his mouth eased into a smile. "Very generous."
She tried to put resentment into her tone, but she didn't think she was too successful. "You peeked into my mind."
His finger wove through a curl at her temple. "That seems inevitable between us.”

“If you’ve got a bag in that SUV, you might as well get it out.”
“He’s not staying here,” Lisa countered.
“I say he is.”
Lisa yanked at the coat from within. “You’re not the only person who lives here, Robin.”
“No, but I’m one-third owner of the house.” She motioned Donovan toward his truck. “Consider whatever part of the house he’s in as my third.”
“Damn it, Robin! I don’t want him here.”
“I do.”
“Why?”
Robin cocked her head to the side as if considering the question. “Because he’s got that big, mean, don’t-mess-with-me look of a rottweiler on steroids that could be a deterrent to any repercussions from your trip into town today, and because”—she shrugged and a smile touched her lips—“he bothers you in a way I’ve never seen you bothered. It’s interesting.”

“What would you have me do? A knight doesn’t look for a princess among the garbage.”
“My Sam had no use for me when he first met me.”
That Maddie couldn’t believe. “You are Sam’s princess in the tower.”
“I was Sam’s pain in the—” Bella smiled and tapped her behind, leaving the word unsaid.”

“You heard about the waterfall incident."
"No Protector hasn't."
Robin sighed. "One skinny-dipping session and a woman's branded a troublemaker for life."
"It wasn't the skinny dipping that got you in trouble."
"There was no way to know Donovan would be training the new soldiers over there that night.”

“Your hunger is returning."
Like she didn't know that. "That's why I came back down here, to let you know."
"And instead you ended up hearing what you shouldn't have."
"I'd say I came back just in time to hear what I needed to." She pinched his arm, letting him know with her eyes that she would pinch harder if he didn't see reason. "Let me go."
"I'm feeling a bit protective right now, so you probably want to be humoring me."
"This millennium protective, or eighteen sixties protective?"
"Definitely eighteen sixties.”

“This isn't good."
"What isn't good?" Kelon asked Donovan, coming into the kitchen. He nodded to Lisa standing in front of the stove. She flinched, blushed and then glared at him. He cocked an eyebrow at Donovan. He shrugged. "She's mad because I won't discipline her."
Lisa snorted and stirred the pot of oatmeal on the stove. "Oh please. Like I couldn't get a spanking if I wanted one.”

“Hey, sweet talk isn't supposed to make you cry."
"I think you're out of luck."
"Because that was too corny?"
"Because I blinked and you didn't go away. You're real."
He felt the same way. The joy that she was here, the lingering panic that it was just another dream he'd wake up from, her name an echo of desperate hope in his head.”

“The Tragallion pack wasn't exactly welcoming them with open arms ... All in all they were an angry, weary-looking group. Jace tucked Miri a little closer in to his side. "Remind me to deck Ian next time I set eyes on him."
She glanced up. "If you hold him, I'll do it for you.”

“The joy in telling a story is in the magic of spinning the tale, not in the number of exaggerations you can create."
"So you say. And who's to say I was exaggerating?"
"I do."
"That's because you're six-foot-plus and more brawn than--"
"More brawn than what?"
"Than a five-foot-tall woman of undisclosed weight."
"Now there's another difference in how I'd tell the story. I'd use the word insufficient to describe your weight.”

“Jared turned and Raisa caught her breath. She'd spent the whole of her natural and unnatural life longing for someone to want her. To look at her like the heroes of romance novels looked at the women they loved. Like she was the sun to his moon, the heart in his soul. In the moment Jared's eyes met hers, she knew she hadn't dreamed big enough.”
