“As much as I want to hunt a Nightbeast, because, well, I'm me, I had, like, twenty separate nightmares about being eaten by one," Valley added.
"I had a dream about a Nightbeast too but it was super weird. It didn't eat me, but it turned into a baby and then I... rocked it to sleep?" Thorn said uncertainly.”
Claribel A. Ortega, Witchlings

Claribel A. Ortega, Witchlings
“Didn't you notice how you've been able to do level-four and even level-five spells pretty much this whole time... Told you." Valley crossed her arms and smiled smugly.”
Claribel A. Ortega, Witchlings
“Don’t compare yourself, or your abilities, to anyone who is not you.”
Claribel A. Ortega, The Golden Frog Games
“I had a grand total of one good friend at school," Seven said, and her stomach turned at the use of the word had. Poppy had been her friend. Not anymore.
"That's one more than I ever had," Valley said, her cheeks bright pink... "I just wanted to be your friend but kept messing up and it made me angry.”
Claribel A. Ortega, Witchlings
“Valley and Seven shared a giggle. Their first shared giggle in person. Heck had frozen over. There was at least one icicle.”
Claribel A. Ortega, Witchlings
“Every last Witchling had been sorted as a Spare.
"We're gonna need more cloaks," said Seven.”
Claribel A. Ortega, House of Elephants
“What happens when they do die?" asked Valley as she sat in one of the normal-looking chairs.
"They turn into regular furniture," said Graves, which sent Valley almost flying out of the chair and right into Seven, who held in a laugh.
"Don't wanna be embarrassing in front of your crush," whispered Seven as Valley straightened herself up.”
Claribel A. Ortega, The Golden Frog Games
“Aphra Dimblewit sniffed. "No doubt you've heard of my aunt and uncle, then?"
"Heard of them - we helped get them sent to the Tombs," Valley said, giving Seven a high five.”

“You're not gonna make me into a Moth House witch again, are you," Figgs asked.
"Worse," Seven said. "Thorn is going to turn you into a rat."

Claribel A. Ortega, House of Elephants
“We won't do anything that Valley wouldn't do," Seven said.
"That... doesn't inspire me with much confidence.”

“I'm not saying don't try to change things, I'm just saying don't let them know what you're doing till it's too late for them to do anything about it.”

“Concerned murmurs rippled through the crowd. They can't believe him, can they? Thorn asked. You'd be surprised what some witches are willing to believe if it means they get to have their way, Valley said.”
Claribel A. Ortega, House of Elephants
“Witches like that get away with everything. You know that," Dusk said, looking at Valley.
"Not this time," Valley said under her breath, and Seven was in agreement. This time, they would make them pay.”
Claribel A. Ortega, House of Elephants
“They've been talking about my family in the newspapers and gossip programs for months. They've called my father and mother every cursed word under the Stars, they've taken everything we had away to pay for a tragedy that was not of our making, but do you know what they can't do?" Lotus said, looking straight at Valley.
"They can't break us.”
Claribel A. Ortega, The Golden Frog Games
“They can't believe him, can they? Thorn Asked. You'd be surprised what some witches are willing to believe if it means they get to have their way, Valley said.”
Claribel A. Ortega, House of Elephants
“May the Stars protect us," Thorn said.
"The moon and the sun too if they're not too busy," Valley said. "We're gonna need all the protection we can get."
Slowly, Seven put one foot in front of the other and stepped into the Grim.”
Claribel A. Ortega, Scepter of Memories
“Seven lumbered up the final stretch of the hill and wondered at how different things looked up here compared with the rest of Ravenskill. All the foliage was neatly trimmed, in bright, beautiful colors, the roads devoid of even one small weed and paved in fancy yellow brick that began down by the waterfront. Instead of house numbers like where Seven lived, signs reading things like Mango Estate and Snowcap House pointed to the various houses. It was less cold here too, a soft breeze warming the air around her. It even smelled nicer, and Seven wondered, quite angrily, if this whole section of town had been enchanted. She knew how much magic and effort that much enchantment took, and she could think of a few places where their resources would be of better use, especially if witches like Pixel were going hungry. Everything felt rigged and unfair, and Seven couldn’t help but feel powerless.”
Claribel A. Ortega, Witchlings
“are dealing with some pretty heavy burdens of their own. I did not want to add another. You’ve shown yourself to be capable of making hard decisions, Seven. The impossible task is not for the faint of heart, and it was invoked because of your bravery. I have a strong inkling you can handle this.” “I don’t know if I can do it on my own,” Seven said. The Gran looked right into Seven’s eyes. “You don’t have to do it on your own, Seven. You are never alone—remember that. Even if the people you love and count on can’t be by your side, they are always in your heart. We will all keep a closer eye on Beefy and his magic; there are ways to keep him close to home. I know you will figure out the impossible task with Thorn and Valley. Let them help you.” The Uncle came back into the room with Valley and Thorn, talking loudly about the wonders of crystal spheres, and Seven hid the bird in her cloak. She felt terrible about being singled out. She didn’t want to be responsible for making that kind of choice. It was a lot to put on her shoulders. “Rulean, come. We must prepare healing tonics for the Witchlings to take tonight so their wounds don’t get infected.” A staircase appeared in the ground, and she floated down to some unknown room, the Town Uncle following close behind. The moment they’d left, Valley erupted. “Great, another thing to worry about,” Valley said.”
Claribel A. Ortega, Witchlings
