“Because I’d rather stay home with my books than go out into the world and feel like I don’t measure up.”
Kate Bromley, Talk Bookish to Me
“You never have to forget him, you just have to release the pieces that hurt. Love is the part of him you get to keep.”
Kate Bromley, Talk Bookish to Me
“Now it’s time to fight for it. Only you can decide how bad you want this.”
Kate Bromley, Talk Bookish to Me
“In the past, my dad's absence in this world felt like a numbing ache I could never get accustomed to. An amputated limb I kept trying to use. But something changed after the grief-ridden moment of clarity I had at my dining room table in Italy. From then on, my dad was so obviously present that the feeling of missing him switched from emptiness to a calm sense of warm -- something to reach for instead of something to fear.”
Kate Bromley, Talk Bookish to Me
“Everyone knows that pancakes are the international breakfast food of love.”
Kate Bromley, Talk Bookish to Me
“I love you, you emotional hermit.”
Kate Bromley, Talk Bookish to Me
“It’s official. I’m dying alone. Just putting that out there.”
Kate Bromley, Talk Bookish to Me
“I'll stick to any pace that's right for you because what's between us is worth fighting for and I'll fight to the end if that's what you want." .... .... "I can't promise how fast things are going to go. This is going to take time, but I want to fight for us, too. I know what we have is worth it. You are worth it.”
Kate Bromley, Talk Bookish to Me
“You may not believe it, but every time I read a new book while wearing pajamas, I physically get a runner’s high.”
Kate Bromley, Talk Bookish to Me
“Yeah, someone like that,” I say with a wistful smile. “A dramatic whirlwind romance that takes the world and turns it upside down.” Ryan isn’t smiling. He watches me for a good long while, silent and still. “I don’t think I believe that. Even if you could experience what you write about, you would be way too uptight to do that kind of stuff, let alone enjoy it.” I take in his accusation and once again sit up straight. “That’s not true. What happens in my books just doesn’t happen in real life. If I could experience something like that, I wouldn’t be too uptight to enjoy it.” “You’re sure about that?” “Yes, I’m sure.” “Okay. Prove it.” I think back on Ryan’s words. “What do you mean?” I ask. “I mean let’s choose a book and we’ll see if you can read it and act out what the characters are doing without you being too afraid to stop.” “You want me to read what’s in a romance novel and then act it out?” “Yes.” “And who am I supposed to act it out with?” “Me, of course.” Ryan’s proposition crashes over me like a cold, unexpected wave. “You’re kidding.” “I’m entirely serious. This way, we can see who’s right about your novels once and for all, or you can just admit that you would never really do any of the things you write about.” I continue to stare at him in total silence. “I knew it,” he says a few moments later. And then my stubborn nature, strengthened by the alcohol, takes the wheel. “Fine,” I say defiantly. “Fine?” he asks. “Are you sure?” I get up from the couch without hesitating. “Pick a book.” Ryan smiles. “How about the one you’re writing now?”

“There’s beauty in every inch of a woman. In art, in fashion, in life, there will always be people who want to mold our bodies into ways that will suit them, but this can never be. There is nothing more beautiful and deserving of respect than the shape of a woman.”
Kate Bromley, Ciao For Now
“You know, Sullivan, no girl ever made me laugh as much as you do. That always bothered me.”
Kate Bromley, Talk Bookish to Me
“Because what I learned from him is that love isn’t something that you find or that finds you—love is something you gift yourself. You design it. You decide who you are going to love and who will have the privilege of loving you back. Once I understood that, I met the person who I knew brought out the best in me. And I chose to love him because of that. Day after day we choose each other, and that’s the kind of love that”
Kate Bromley, Ciao For Now
“It’s always the quiet, serious ones. They know what they’re doing. That’s why they’re so quiet. They’re just sitting there thinking about what they’re going to do to you, twenty-four-seven.”
Kate Bromley, Ciao For Now
“All my life, I was never overweight but I was also never underweight. Where other girls were toned and trim, I was softer and curvy. When my friends went to dance class, I played tennis and softball. I came out of the womb with my upper thighs touching and they’ve refused to be parted ever since.”
Kate Bromley, Talk Bookish to Me
“Because what I learned from him is that love isn’t something that you find or that finds you—love is something you gift”

“The way you just told me that story, which, by the way, makes me want to go home and sing “Drivers License” in full voice while wrapped in a blanket, one hundred percent proves how not over you and Ryan are.”
Kate Bromley, Talk Bookish to Me
“It’s not about us being even. I’m trying to explain that you and I weren’t just messing around before I went off and got married. From the second I walked into your apartment there was only ever going to be you for me. I was never going back to Madison. I was never going to love or want anyone but you. You mean the world to me and I would give up everything in a heartbeat if it meant that we could be together.”
Kate Bromley, Talk Bookish to Me
“When you sat with me again in the next class, I was stunned.” Ryan catches my gaze and keeps it. “I think I was already in love with you by then. I just had to wait for you to catch up with me.”
Kate Bromley, Talk Bookish to Me
“I’ve always been jealous of musicians. They play and get lost in their music, escaping to an untouchable place that I want to go to, but can’t.”
Kate Bromley, Talk Bookish to Me
“Ryan loosens his hold on my hand while also pulling me closer. “You know what I like the most about reading your books? I like how when I read them, I hear your voice in my head. I like knowing that I can hear you when no one else can.”
Kate Bromley, Talk Bookish to Me
“But no matter what I do, I always get in my own way. And as sad as it is, sometimes it almost feels good to hate myself. It’s just so easy.”
Kate Bromley, Ciao For Now
“I wonder if it’s typical in Italy for shopkeepers to randomly see into your soul.”
Kate Bromley, Ciao For Now

“Sometimes I’m so lonely, I think I might collapse from the weight of it.”
Kate Bromley, Here for the Drama
“realize this moment is nothing like the last chapter of a romance novel. It’s chaotic, a little weird, it’s silly and it’s ours. What I mean to say is—it’s perfect.”
Kate Bromley, Talk Bookish to Me
“Marco just polished off his third espresso, so he’s walking that flirty line between happily energized and possessed by a demon.”
Kate Bromley, Ciao For Now

“I cross the room with a friendly smile, and it almost falters when Ryan openly grimaces at me. I consider vampire hissing back at him in response, but then figure one of us should act like an adult.”
