“Darning
Going to bed
I throw my kilt socks
Neatly before me on to the floor and see
They have been darned and darned
And carefully darned by me.
The skill and neatness
Learned, mother, from you,
The frugality, father from you,
A perfect marriage,
A perfect inheritance of skills,
And as I pat and smooth
The final patch,
Just as you showed me, mum,
I celebrate you both.”
