“An angel without a halo is a demon. An angel without wings is a human. And an angel who cannot fly is a dream from a fairytale.”

“It is like an alternate universe, I don't understand how I am different from other versions of myself .”
“Not necessarily an alternate universe; it is more like contemporary parallelism. You are the same person living within the same cosmos, but unlike alternate universes, how there are infinite variations of Hatsumi, there are two of you, presently existing behind a mirror of time going about in separate environments.”
“What happens if I see—myself?”
“Couldn't tell you, I’ve never met myself, I think another period of enmity would make the most sense if it were to happen since you two are anomalies to the memoir of life, death, and dreams...”

“Time is a silent war that no one has ever been able to win. It is something that has been lost so many times that we have just accepted it as a natural phenomenon that will eventually catch up to us.”

“Two non-existent things cannot intersect each other, just as something that exists cannot be omitted by something else that also exists. There is always an exception that links to an impossible. That exception is Hoku. Although we cannot meddle with each other's astralines, Hoku can because he is the exception to our limits. The fact that he hasn't died in the present gives us a dire opportunity.”

“Why write for a dead person?”
“Why write for anyone? Whether a person is alive or dead, it doesn’t change how they should be remembered, even as their legacy loses its luster. What matters here is that you all will witness the story of the life he lived. As I have said before, the most sentimental masterpieces are those that can only be revisited in the mind.”
“What a wonderfully worded way to put it— it almost sounds like you are describing memories, rather than a masterpiece.”
“The memories we create are one of the greatest expressions of free will we have, but they are misinterpreted as events that only served to humble us, as a result of how often we tend to remember what hurt us. Those types of memories make the ones worth cherishing, seem like a subtle moment when we were just happy. Perhaps if those moments became iterations of time we could overtly value the hidden treasure of what it means to live. But for now, I think the best we can do is appreciate how strange and brief these masterpieces are.”
The breathing in the room stilled, even the pen on the notepad resting in the transcriber's lap stopped scribbling.
“...I see well…
Do you have any plans moving forward from the industry?”
“Nothing remarkable… I might visit the Brooklyn Bridge and admire the sun sinking into the horizon before I return home.”
“Taking time to alleviate grief is a good thing, I hope we will get the chance to cross paths in the future, even if it is a mere coincidence.”
“Maybe, but likely not, I will not be in New York tomorrow.”

“This piece of literature, in particular, seems to have greater a moral purpose and tendency to deviate from the customary concept of art. It’s an odd style, would appear that this nameless author is trying to revolutionize voice.”

“Living taught me selfishness, it has taken so much from me, in spite of having nothing afterward, it sustained the habit of taking, going so far as to steal what I had left of myself.”
“I don’t understand, are you saying that life stole your will to live? Doesn't that contradict the meanings?”
“Living and life are not the same. Living is breathing, something you pave, dragging around a body absent of life until we run out of ways to cope with the exhaustion. Life kills the living, and death cleans the remains.”

“We are far from complex. We express emotions no matter how much we beg to suppress them. We cry, cling to what we feel will not leave, and nurture ourselves as vulnerable children. We cower from our notion of how much one can endure, and shield our ears, eyes, and mouth to hinder evil.
Humanity is simply the facade of the vulnerable human spirit; we are terrified creatures, walking creations, and creators of consequences. I believe we are human enough when we are forced into the dark with nothing but our fear that calls for inevitable courage. " (The Latent Identities Of Darwin)”

“The intentions are not born, they are seeds planted by mentors during one's youth, and it is watered by them periodically until it sprouts into a hideous flower, and only learns to grow until someone rips the root from the mind.” (psychologist)
“Are you saying he watched his parents eat people?”
“No, habits are usually not directly nurtured from the source. They are created by the culprit as a way to cope with the level of absence in their hearts. They need to feel something, whether it be guilt or exhilaration. Though identifying a passion has trials, it’s common for criminals to experiment before they stick with a system of how to commit the crime.”

“People resonate madness with voices that only they can hear. A man claims to have done it because his mind told him that there would be unthinkable agony less he doesn't. Perhaps, those voices bear more wits than the notion of their own decisions being read aloud. They're professing it because they were told.” (The Latent Identities Of Darwin)”

“Most people in the agency tend to die because of self-destruction.”
“If every person were to be at risk of their own violent destruction, it would be nearly impossible for anyone to survive in their own body.”
“Yes, but here we are investigating the result of the destruction that was inflicted on another. It makes me a question which is truly more potent.”

“Was it truly necessary to break both of the bird's wings, when breaking one can force it to walk on land? Is it necessary to prevent it from flying at all? Or are humans just heedless beings? Provoked to ruin anything that gives them a sense of inferiority.”

“Sometimes, we like to imagine that we know a person because of how they used to be. Sadly, the reality of this is that people change. They love you at some point then 'move on' and resent you for the rest of your life." —Birds On The Wall”

“As children, our lives are like a game of tic-tac-toe—a game like many that are only possible under rules. Only two letters, never more. We are not allowed to imagine past the threshold of nine boxes. Any goal past achieving three in a row is futile.” —Birds On The Wall”

“Virtue is honorably rewarded, and the wrongdoers are suitably punished. We tend to strive for the improvement of our nature, with what you call the moral lessons that are woven into our hearts. If that were true, would there be any wrongdoers, such as myself? Would you say that perhaps I am an exception to your virtuous belief in man, only that I have scathed myself amidst the growth of those morals?” (Joseph Vladamir)
“Fancy language aside, in my eyes, you are nothing but an utter psychopath.” (Darwin)
“I am only pointing out the special treatment I am receiving for being a prisoner. All of this security, just for me! My previous guards would slumber with their handguns resting on their cigar-burned desks. Such fools trusting me enough to dream under my eye, you are a much smarter fool.”
