“Ed and Mike followed Percy Lynn along the promenade at Herne Bay. To their left, the grey sea was flecked with white horses. Most of the holidaymakers had deserted the shingle beach for the amusement arcades and cafés which lined the seafront. The small pub wasn’t one Ed would have chosen for their meeting but it was quiet and she was pleased to be out of the wind.
