“Where Power Rushes In But he [the Lord] answered me, “My grace is always more than enough for you, and my power finds its full expression through your weakness.” So I will celebrate my weaknesses, for when I’m weak I sense more deeply the mighty power of Christ living in me. 2 CORINTHIANS “I do it myself!” Everyone who has ever parented a three-yearold knows this refrain well. In their path of development, every child”

“reaches an age in which they no longer want mom or dad to do things for them. They want the satisfaction of doing things on their own. This is a healthy and natural part of growing up. Most of us bring a similar impulse into our growing up in God. But it’s not nearly as healthy. We prefer to take things as far as possible in our own strength, ability, and “wisdom.” Well-meaning voices in our lives even encourage this. “God helps those who help themselves,” we’re assured. Often, it is only when we reach the end of our own natural capacity that we are willing to call on God for help. It’s only when our brilliant plans go tragically wrong or when our tight grip of control on our circumstances gets”

“PRAYER OF DECLARATION: Father, I can’t do it myself. I just can’t. I’m weak and frail and in desperate need of You, moment by moment. I recognize that I’m always at the end of myself. But Your grace—Your unmerited gift of power and strength—is oh so much more than enough for me.”

“slippery that we start to send up distress flares for help from God. Of course, as with audacious, water-walking Peter rapidly sinking beneath the waves, our gracious Saviour is ever-ready to reach out and rescue us. But why wait until we come to the end of ourselves? Why not just live in recognition that we’re always at the end of ourselves? Why not live in constant connection to His power? A faithful paraphrase of today’s key verse would have the Father saying to you: “My grace is all you need because in every area in which you recognize that you’re weak, My supernatural power rushes in to carry you.” That’s the key. Recognizing and admitting your need. It requires laying aside the toddler impulse of “I do it myself!”

“It is one thing to know that God is willing and able to carry you through your trials—great and small—but something completely different to let Him. Jesus once looked at an entire city and said, “So many times I have longed to gather a wayward people, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings—but you were too stubborn to let me.” (Matthew 23:37) That same Redeemer described the Holy Spirit as “the Helper.” Shockingly the only barrier to living in a constant state of supernatural help is your own pride. His gracious invitation is that you “cast all your cares upon Him” in calm confidence that He cares for you. (1 Peter 5:7 NIV) Humility and a heart of gratitude are the twin keys to a lifestyle of power-filled rest.”
