“I'm not looking for the perfect man. I'm looking for the man whose imperfections I can put up with.”
Devon Ashley
“Chuckling, I cried, “I’m sorry.” I pulled even harder and broke loose from his grip, but I fell backwards onto the floor. He slowly stalked towards me, his smile filled with desire and I pointed my hand at him. “Don’t. Behave!”

“Don’t behave? I accept your terms of parole.”

“That’s not what I meant!” But when my smile broke through, he knew I was lying.”
Devon Ashley, Falling in Between
“I do love you. And I never gave you anything less than everything I had to give. - Jenna Baker”
Devon Ashley, Falling Away
“That horrible stinging sensation returned, the muscles behind my eyes straining as the first tear began to fall. “I’m scared, too. For eighteen months now, I’ve lived in terror, fearing everything and everyone. I don’t want to be scared anymore. The only time I’ve ever felt safe is in your arms. I love you, and I just want to let you in all the way. So please. Please fill me with love, because I can’t bear to be filled with fear anymore. It’s suffocating me.”
Devon Ashley, Nearly Broken

“Can I just say that I don't care if two planes or trains or whatever take off from different locations at different times and travel at different speeds. I am not traffic control, so why the hell would I care what time they'd pass each other?”
Devon Ashley, Falling in Between
“Shane was just leaving, too.”

“What?” he cried.

I slammed my palms flat against his body. Dear God, there were some nice ridges hiding under that shirt! My hands slid up to his pecks and pushed. “Yeah. You have to go now.”

“Are you for real?” he asked. He was slowly backing his way through the room, but it had nothing to do with the strength of my push…or lack thereof.

“Very. I can’t. I need to sleep on this.”

With a wicked smile, he flattened his hands over mine and sassed, “I’m all for you sleeping on me. Let’s go.”
Devon Ashley, Waiting On My Reason
“Eyeing me playfully, he tossed a rock back and forth between his hands. “Was that an accident, or do you have a wet t-shirt competition you need me to get you ready for?”
Devon Ashley, Falling in Between
“Here I was just thinking all these wonderful things about you and now you’re trying to strip down before we can have sex.”

His hands casually held in the air, he explained, “I was hot.”

“It’s seventy degrees in here.”

His hands went to his cotton pants, thumbing the cinched band, preparing for a total strip down. Gawd, how I secretly wanted him to do it, but for some reason, the word stop came out of my mouth. At least I agreed with myself when I said, “That is so not fair.”

Neither was the way the left side of his mouth curled up, smiling wickedly as his eyes swept across my body. “You’re right. Your ogling is making me uncomfortable. You should remove your top to compensate.”

“Why can't our existence be like the stars? Happily twinkling and dancing in the night sky, bringing light and entertainment to all who see? The stars make everyone ponder unanswered questions, makes everyone smile. And no matter who you are, where you are or what you've done, they're always there for you. No matter what.”
Devon Ashley, Dust
“I have to go, Jenna", he whispered, sounding shaky, like he questioned the decision himself. He released the hold and squatted to retrieve his bag, leaving me to sway in the air, ready to collapse any second, as he walked away forever. And it ate me up inside. Forever.

"Evan?"

"Yeah?" he answered, turning back as his hand gripped the door.

"I do love you. And i never gave you anything less than everything i had to give" A solitary tear managed to break through my defenses. "And i'll always regret that it wasn't enough"

"Me, too" And just as he slid out into the hallway, marking the beginning of forever, he quietly added "Because i would've spent my life with you”
Devon Ashley, Falling Away
“Wow. You’re going to be a little more difficult to date than I
anticipated.”

I loosely crossed my arms and leaned against the door frame. “Yep. It’s gonna require a little effort on your part. Like physically leaving your room and crossing that horrible hallway that protects you from the cold and snow, and actually come talk to me in person.”

“Alright, alright. You win. Personal contact it is. So how about you meet me for lunch tomorrow?”

“Sure.” I reached over and gently tugged him towards me. “See how easy that was?” His body pressed up against me and his lips brushed mine once more. My insides did a happy dance.

“I want you to remember this arrangement when I stop by unexpectedly and you have green goop smeared all over your face and you’re too embarrassed to open the door.”

“Just for the record, the way to a man's heart isn't through his stomach, but through the best fucking blow job ever. You want a man to be your bitch? Perfect your craft.”
Devon Ashley, Falling Upward
“My name is Rosalie. I may be smaller, I may be weaker, but I was born free, should die free. You will not take this from me.”
Devon Ashley, Dust
“She sipped the tonic. Her face puckered again. She gagged, covered her mouth and mumbled in disgust, "Oh my God!"

"I said it tasted better, not great."

Abby continued to force the sour tonic down in sips. She could taste a hint of vanilla but the potion left a bitter aftertaste that was similar to vinegar. Her stomach gurgled and burned.

"Water," she coughed after her last sip of tonic.

"No. You'll dilute it," Noel said firmly, relieving her of the glass.

Smartly, she rebutted, "Isn't that what you're supposed to do after drinking poison? Or is it throw up?”
Devon Ashley, Ordained
“Noel ducked to the lower cabinets – a percussion of pots and pans clanged into each other.

“Are you intentionally trying not to listen to me?”

His head popped above the counter. “I resent that. I’m a great listener. Just ask the TV.”

Emily rolled her eyes. “Alright. I had…”

Noel heard her swallow and he suddenly wanted to knock himself out with the frying pan.

“…relations…with a mortal, Tommy.”

He ducked again, this time from embarrassment. He groaned silently, wishing she’d turn and walk away before she said what he knew was coming.

“It wasn’t quite the same as it was when I was human. It didn’t—”

“Please you, yeah I got it,” he blurted. “Please, for the love of God, stop.”
Devon Ashley, Metamorphosis
“Emily smiled mischievously. "Your engagement was a rainy day occurrence? Afraid she would say no on a good day?”
Devon Ashley, Ordained
“Sophie stood there all perky with her hands on her hips in a model-like stance, and a smile that showed way too many pearly whites…and a helium balloon that shouted It’s A Boy!!!

“Nice balloon, Sophie,” he said, slightly amused.

“What?” she asked, all innocently. “They were out of Get Well.”

The hell they were. This little stunt was so Sophie. I knew exactly what that balloon meant – that I came into this hospital alone but I was gonna leave it with a boy wrapped in my arms. Sophie probably thinks he’s ready to suckle my breasts too.”

“This was why he came back for me. This was why he wanted me and not some broken little girl he could pick up at auction. He wanted me because I was alive. Because I felt. Because the pain was etched on my face every time he won. And because he loved fucking with me in every possible way.”

“With a firm hushed tone, she replied, "Just let him go. Women like Anne will always be the best choice for our lifestyle"

"Well, that may be true, but at least when he was with me, he didn't have to drink himself to death just to get through the day”
Devon Ashley, Falling Away
“But there's one thing all the pixies do have in common. There's no magic left in any of their wings. No shimmer. No luminescence. And I have this awful feeling that my wings look no different.”
Devon Ashley, Dust
“She was my gravity, the very thing that kept me grounded. And I was hers, and I no longer wanted her to feel like she was falling. She was mine to catch. To steady. To hold.”
Devon Ashley, Nearly Mended
“Once you're already in hell, it's too late to beg for mercy.”

“Leave already, because I'm on the verge of hypothetically kicking my foot up your ass, and I doubt the pain of it will be pretend.”
Devon Ashley, Nearly Mended
“I no longer liked the night. The darkness was where he lied in wait, waiting for it to swallow me whole, suffocating my senses with fear.”
Devon Ashley, Nearly Broken

“Sometimes you have to smile to keep from crying.”
Devon Ashley, Twist Into Me
“I asked you here today because the police department asked me to assess your mental health."

I huffed and rolled my eyes. "Already? Seriously? It's been a week." I am fucking sunshine.”

“I’m haunted by all these horrible, negative images. I need to know there’s something better, to feel something so pure and incandescent, that it’ll wash away the evil. And I want that touch to come from you.”
Devon Ashley, Nearly Broken
“But all it took was that one person, that one moment in time when you were ruined for everyone else.”
Devon Ashley, Nearly Mended
“I’m never putting on a nice dress again. I only get screwed when I do. And not in the fun, typical way.”
