“Whereas males of both species played the field in similar ways, a human marriage had nothing on a vampire mating. A marriage could be dissolved by a judge with a little slip of paper. A marriage could be ended in a blink if the humans got tired of each other or fell out of love. With vampires, there was no dissolving a mating. A mated pair didn't grow tired of one another, and they certainly didn't fall out of love. When two vampires mated, a link formed to tether them to one another on a level that transcended the physical plane and fused them into one on a spiritual and emotional level, which was why the loss of a mate left a male in a state of despair if it didn't kill him outright. A mating was for life and plainly demonstrated the vampire race's link to the animal kingdom.”

“Miriam woke up to find Io sitting on the floor next to her. His gaze brightened and he smiled. "How do you feel?" he said. He helped her sit up. "Like shit." She groaned. "Don't get me wrong, I feel better than I did, but damn, this shit sucks." Who the hell had let in the army of Terminators to play Rock 'Em Sock 'Em inside her body? Io chuckled at her surprisingly unfeminine manner of speaking and sat down beside her. "I gave you a potent detox with my venom. I needed to get the cobalt out of your system." "Ah, I see." She leaned her face into her hands. "Great. Just great. I don't know whether to thank you or hit you." How did she always seem to put her worst face forward around this guy? The one male she wanted to impress and all she did was behave like a strung-out junkie around him. The vampire version of Amy Winehouse. How could he not be impressed? Uh-huh, right.”

“He was the wind and she water, and together they created a cyclone. One fueled by extremes. Love and hate, the rose and the thorn, the desert and the ocean, fire and water, light and dark.”

“You don’t need to take revenge. Just sit back and wait, because karma will get hold of those that hurt you and, if you are lucky, God will let you watch. -Author Unknown”

“I'm not stupid, Malek," he said softly. "I know I'm in trouble. Big trouble. Jackson…" He closed his eyes and took a heavy breath before continuing. "Mating Jackson has awakened everything I felt for Kat after she died. It's like I'm feeling it all over again." He slowly swirled his drink, making the ice clink the sides of the glass. "And he doesn't love me. He never did. I can hear his thoughts and know there's someone else. I see what they do with one another, but there's nothing I can do to stop him, and yet I can't walk away." He lifted his gaze to Malek's and saw complete and total understanding reflected back at him. Like any other male of their species, Malek knew Micah was between the proverbial rock and a hard place. Micah looked back down into his glass. "It's just a matter of time, Malek." A matter of time before his mental faculties short-circuited and tossed him like a rag doll into suffering so intense he'd be lucky to remember his own name when the end came. Malek's”

“That's Trevor. And he was about to tell us how it is he hitched a ride back here with Gina." Micah settled into his chair, leaned back, and steepled his fingers in front of his chest. "And I'm practically creaming myself to hear this story." "Look, it's my—" Gina's voice cut off when Micah's hand jutted out, palm toward her. "No, I want to hear from Trevor," Micah said, keeping his eyes on the strange male. "What brings you to my world, Trev. You don't mind if I call you Trev, do you?" "What if I do?" "I'd tell you to get over it." "Are you always like this?" "Only to my friends." The two locked gazes for several seconds until Trevor chuckled and looked away. "I'm not sure whether I like you or hate your guts." Micah grinned. "I get that a lot.”
Donya Lynne, Return of the Assassin
“I can't live without her, Micah. And I won't go through the hell I just went through over Carmen again. I won't." For a long, tense moment, nothing was said as the weight of reality sank in, and then Micah sighed in defeat. Tears bloomed and glistened in his eyes, and his jaw clinched in a hard line as he fought to hold his own emotions in check. This was good-bye, and Micah knew it. "I want you to pull the trigger, Micah. I want you to be the one to do it, because God knows, you won't miss." Micah's chin quivered, and his mouth worked hard as he blinked and looked away. He sniffed heavily before running his palms down his face to wipe away his tears. "Fuck," he bit out quietly between his teeth. "Don't ask me to do that. Please don't ask me to do that." He sniffed again and looked back at Malek, his eyes bloodshot with his efforts to restrain his grief. "Please, Micah. Please. Do this for me. This one last favor." Micah regarded him, clearly losing the battle to keep his composure. After a moment's hesitation, he bowed his head and clasped Malek's hand like the brothers-in-arms they were. "You can count on me. You need me, and I'm there. Just like old times.”
