“Some time ago, the concept of the “carnal Christian” became popular among some evangelical groups. The basic idea was that someone could be saved, and yet living no differently than an unbeliever day after day. In their lives there would be no hunger and thirst for righteousness, no patterns of obedience, little or no prayer or Bible reading, spotty church attendance, coupled with a love for the world, and a worldly mindset hostile to the Christian faith. Yet, because these people had “prayed the sinner’s prayer” or gone forward at a Billy Graham rally, or “asked Jesus into their hearts” at a youth camp, they were supposedly Christians. This shallow idea of conversion was coupled with the biblical concept of “once saved, always saved,” and a poisonous concoction resulted. Once that concoction was downed, the person became seriously ill with spiritual self-deception. The end of that road is hell. If anything gives you complacent comfort in a sinful lifestyle, it is a devilish component of the problem.”

“Tiny threads of time are the warp and woof of God’s redemptive tapestry: a series of todays, used well or poorly. God has ordained that the physical universe be composed of atoms, so also has God ordained that history be composed of moments. Personal and world history is an accumulation of todays, and how they were spent. At death, our window of opportunity will be closed, our time on earth finished. We can no longer store up treasure in heaven. We can no longer lead people to Christ. We can no longer suffer gladly for Christ. The time for all these things will be past. The call to every Christian is to make the most of this short segment of time, to make every day count for eternity.”

“When Judgment Day comes, we will regret the waste of a single moment not used for the glory of Christ. We will, however, not regret one moment we spent diligently studying God’s Word and hiding it in our heart. We will only wish we’d spent more time doing this.”

“We should fear lying on our deathbed and groaning, knowing that we let some lust or sin habit rob us of the best years of our lives on earth.”

“We have been trained toward impatience by our lightning-quick information age.”

“based on favorable earthly circumstances but rather on faith in Christ, they will ask “you for a reason for the hope that is in you” (1 Pet. 3:15). That hope shines most brilliantly when earthly circumstances are darkest, and the rare jewel of Christian contentment is a radiant source of that light.”

“Contentment keeps you in the fight to the end.”

“There is nothing we can do to improve our standing in his eyes, for Christ’s perfect righteousness is already ours by faith.”
Andrew M. Davis, An Infinite Journey: Growing toward Christlikeness
“If we continue to focus only on our “favorite” passages of Scripture, we may well miss something new that God wants to say to the church through a neglected portion of His Word. God does not speak any word in vain, and there are no wasted passages of Scripture.”

“Therefore, sanctification is an infinite journey, because only the infinite power of God can complete it. And only the infinitely powerful priestly ministry of Christ at the right hand of God can keep us from all spiritual harm and enable us to make a single step forward in our sanctification.”
Andrew M. Davis, An Infinite Journey: Growing toward Christlikeness
“But as we labor, struggle, fail, weep, succeed, exult, fall, and rise again in the pursuit of daily holiness, we must keep ever before us these immutable truths: “I am a regenerate, justified believer in Jesus Christ, seen in him as perfectly righteous, adopted into God’s family, completely at peace with God, and in that state I will continue until I am finally vindicated on Judgment Day.”
Dr. Andrew M. Davis, An Infinite Journey: Growing toward Christlikeness
“We don’t perfectly understand how much God does for us every day to keep us in the faith—to”

“And we are to meditate on “every word that comes from the mouth of God.” There is no more useful discipline to this careful process of verse by verse meditation than memorization. Memorization is not the same as meditation, but it is almost impossible for someone to memorize a passage of Scripture without somewhat deepening his/her understanding of those verses. Plus, once the passage is memorized, a lifetime of reflection is now available through ongoing review”

“Christian submission “freely submits to” God’s wise and fatherly disposal. Submission involves gladly recognizing God’s fatherly authority to make these kinds of decisions concerning his children. It means to yield, to place ourselves under, to bow down to our majestic God. The opposite of submission is rebellion, the essence of sin. By Christian contentment, we are embracing our role as creatures. Satan arrogantly rebelled in heaven and sought to take God’s throne (Isa. 14:13–14). When Adam rebelled against God, he was following Satan’s path of pride. Our salvation has as its essence bringing rebellious people back under God’s kingly rule. Most of our restless discontent is nothing more than rebellion.”

“3:16 - Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God (emphasis mine).”

“Scripture stands over all private experiences and interprets them.”
Andrew M. Davis, An Infinite Journey: Growing toward Christlikeness
“It is the duty of all Christians to strive after contentment every single day for the rest of their lives on earth. We owe this to Christ. A convicting question stands over all our moments of complaining discontent: Has Christ, crucified and resurrected on your behalf, done enough to make you content today . . . or must he do a little more?”

“While I live, I shall defeat you. And if you kill me, in my death, I shall defeat you even more.”

“There will never be a time on this earth that we will graduate from the careful study of the gospel, or from needing to believe its message.”

“how can you talk about the commands of God so continually with your children while walking along the road if you can’t recite their content?”
Andrew M. Davis, An Approach to Extended Memorization of Scripture
“Life in this world is dynamic, and we are not going to stay the same, no matter what. We are either going to be increasingly transformed into Christlikeness, or we are going to be increasingly conformed to the world’s corrupted image.”
Andrew M. Davis, An Infinite Journey: Growing toward Christlikeness
“we dabble in sin, the Lord has the right to discipline us for it immediately,”
Andrew M. Davis, An Infinite Journey: Growing toward Christlikeness
“We need to take on sin patterns and defeat them by the power of the Spirit. We need to make ambitious resolutions in Scripture memorization and prayer and character development, and see those goals met to the glory of God. We should yearn to reach the end of our days here on earth knowing that we never rested in our efforts to grow to maximum Christlikeness. We should fear lying on our deathbed and groaning, knowing that we let some lust or sin habit rob us of the best years of our lives on earth. What was said of Captain James Cook concerning an immeasurable secular journey must also be said of us concerning our infinite spiritual journey in sanctification: “We left nothing unattempted.”
Dr. Andrew M. Davis, An Infinite Journey: Growing toward Christlikeness
“long. Now, do your new verse. Read Ephesians 3:7 out loud ten times, looking at each word as if photographing it with your eyes. Be sure to include the verse number. Then cover the page and recite it ten times. You’re done for the day. Weeding the Garden As”
Andrew M. Davis, An Approach to Extended Memorization of Scripture
“Before the invention of the moveable type printing press by Gutenburg in 1439, Bibles were copied by hand and extremely expensive. Only a small percentage of God’s people would have had their own copies of God’s Word. So to meditate “day and night” on a passage meant to have memorized it:”
