I began reading horror novels because I wanted to know if any of them could scare me like LInda Blair did when I was sic in a dark theater in Chicago. I began reading about Cuba because I wanted to understand my parents, my family, my Miami, and myself. I began reading in earnest when I realized I was only at peace at rest at joy between the covers of a book. I received a PhD in English and a university professorship because I couldn't believe I could survive and thrive chattinf about novels I have read and loved.
