Scott Wannberg was a big man with an even bigger presence and never met a soul he didn't touch. He attended Venice High School and then went on to receive his Master’s Degree in creative writing from San Francisco State University in 1977. A Carma Bum from the beginning, Scott rode shotgun in the twisted Cadillac with The Carma Bums from 1989-2009.

Scott was a poet’s poet and a human’s human who spent his life working as a sales clerk and book buyer for independent bookstores, most notably Dutton’s Books in Brentwood, where he held court and worked the stacks for almost 25 years until the store's closing in 2008. He loved the dogs that came into the store and always kept doggie treats behind the counter for them. Boyle writes, "Scott was piling my arms high with books I absolutely just had to read. He had a sixth sense, knowing exactly what I wanted and needed."

In the late 1990s, Los Angeles Magazine named Scott one of the “Top 100 Coolest People” in L.A. In 2000 his book Nomads of Oblivion made the Los Angeles Times bestseller list.

Widely anthologized, his list of published titles includes Mr. Mumps, The Electric Yes Indeed!, Amnesia Motel, Strange Movie Full of Death, Tomorrow Is Another Song, All Your Misplaced Utopias and The Official Language of Yes. The follow up to Harvey Keitel, Harvey Keitel, Harvey Keitel by John Dorsey, S.A. Griffin and Scott Wannberg, Havey Korman, Harvey Korman, Harvey Korman (with the same three authors) was released in March 2017.

Scott was a world class cinephile with a truly encyclopedic knowledge of film and television. His favorite film was The Wild Bunch. He especially loved character actors, his favorite actor being Strother Martin.

In August 2008, he relocated to Florence, Oregon, where he passed away too soon at the age of 58 in August 2011. There was a well attended memorial for him at Beyond Baroque Literary Arts Center in Venice, CA in September 2011.
