Charlottesville: This is your test America

By Charlene Smith

Open your eyes wider to see the good around you, it will amaze you - and make your life happier. Incidents like the death and destruction at Charlottesville, Virginia yesterday are so upsetting they can cloud and subvert us to amplify small evils and minimize the greater good around us.

I hated this book

I’m a long time author and thank goodness I have never met any individuals as vile as those in this book. I had to read it for an assignment and it was frankly traumatic.

sack the editor

Unbelievable amount of errors in this book that a half decent editor or proofreader should have picked up. The story also veers all over the place and is ultimately not credible.

Michael Ondaatje
“We die containing a richness of lovers and tribes, tastes we have swallowed, bodies we have plunged into and swum up as if rivers of wisdom, characters we have climbed into as if trees, fears we have hidden in as if caves.

I wish for all this to be marked on by body when I am dead. I believe in such cartography - to be marked by nature, not just to label ourselves on a map like the names of rich men and women on buildings. We are communal histories, communal books. We are not owned or monogamous in our taste or experience.”
Michael Ondaatje, The English Patient
