K.J. Jones graduated from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. Her cultural anthropology and sociology background becomes apparent in the rich, realistic characters of her books. Each character is inspired by a real person. She interviewed people, from NC rednecks to Marines, to help construct dialect and banter. She hates politically correct characters who seem to come from generic America and finds such fiction tragically boring. Raised in a DoD defense private contract family, she grew up around military. She currently lives in west-central Florida where she has become fascinated by the lizard colonies surrounding her screened-in porch writing area.
