César Octavio Müller Leiva se consideró a sí mismo un investigador viajero: un hombre que aprendió más de la vida que de los libros. Más conocido como Oreste Plath -particular seudónimo que fusionó el nombre del héroe de la tragedia griega y una marca de una cuchillería alemana- este folclorólogo nacional se dedicó por entero a recopilar las imágenes cotidianas y populares atesoradas en cada rincón de nuestro país.

Su interés por aprehender la cultura del pueblo se originó en los innumerables viajes realizados junto a su padre por Sudamérica cuando era niño.
