Ilarie Voronca was one of the leaders of the Romanian avant-garde, initially a pioneer of Romanian Constructivism (known as Integralism), further on a fine poet in the vein of Surrealism and, especially in his period at Paris, Walt Whitman. Îmi port ca pe-un copil bolnav tristeţea, 
prin parcu-n care frunzele, asemeni clopotelor plâng;
şi-aud cum creşte neliniştea începutului de toamnă departe,
şi cum aleargă păsările ploii, pe acoperişuri negre şi se frâng.

E-aceeaşi amintire şi-aceeaşi deznădejde veche.
Aş vrea cu braţele tale de astă-vară sa mă cuprinzi;
păşesc pe urmele trecutului nostru, cum aş merge după un om cunoscut, 
şi totuşi, nu-ţi mai găsesc gestul, în lacul cu mohorâte oglinzi.

E pretutindeni, un aer apăsător, ca de spital, 
şi pomii în despletiri, îşi spun mâhniri ştiute.
Amintirea ta îmi închide drumul ca un mal, 
şi-mi simt gândurile, în pietrişul umed, căzute.

Aşa : vino să-mi ridici sufletul, ca pe-o coajă de copac, 
şi să-mi citeşti durerile închise – cuiburi de păsări triste,

“Cotnar*
de Ilarie Voronca

La lune, quel fer à repasser les nuages, la lingerie
des mers, ton front comme un saut parmi
les herbes hautes, quand la saison est servie en taste-vin
de Cotnar*, et les eaux se découvrent comme les vieilles armes.

Tu veux t’attarder comme une charrue dans les champs
heure mate dans les gares, heure des adieux et des retours,
la forêt se brise dans la clameur, dans l’airain
et le ciel change comme les disques de gramophone.

Le silence pousse avec les herbes sauvages dans la pensée
voix captive parfois dans les charmilles
se dépenser dans le paysage comme un biceps détendu
ton sourire dans les veines circule ainsi qu’un traîneau.

Que tu t’empares de moi comme un haïdouk des marais
que l’élixir bouillonne dans l’étoile
bouleverse mon corps contrebandier
pensée transie non tributaire
transgresse mon cœur comme une frontière.
