J.C. lives with his spouse and writing partner Barb and two cats (Cinders and Ashes) south of Portland, Oregon, and about a hour from the west coast. During his earlier life, his poetry, non-fiction, and short fiction appeared in a number of genre publications.

Together with Barb, he authors the series and books of the Noble Dead Saga (a.k.a The Saga of the Noble Dead, the Noble Dead Series), their first novel-length collaborations starting in 2003. As an ex-academic with a masters in English, he has taught multiple workshops, classes, and seminars related to fiction writing inside and outside of academia.
